Community refers to a group of people who share common interests, values, or beliefs. In the context of religion, a community often consists of individuals who come together to practice their faith, support one another, and participate in religious activities. Different religions have unique ways of forming communities, such as congregations, prayer groups, or cultural gatherings.

For instance, in Christianity, a church serves as a community hub where members gather for worship, support, and fellowship. In Islam, the mosque is a central place for the community to come together for prayers and celebrations. Similarly, in Hinduism, temples often act as community centers where festivals and rituals are celebrated collectively, reinforcing bonds among members.

In small groups, students will discuss the roles that community plays in their own lives and in the religions they have learned about. Each group will choose one religion and list the ways in which community is important to its followers. Afterward, groups will share their findings with the class, highlighting similarities and differences between the various religious communities.

Students will write a short paragraph reflecting on their own experiences with community. They should consider questions such as: What does community mean to you? How does your community support you? Are there any traditions or activities that bring your community together? This activity will help students connect their personal experiences with the broader concept of community in religion.
