Let’s look at a short story example: 'Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a brave little girl named Thandi. She loved exploring the forest behind her house. One day, she discovered a hidden cave filled with sparkling crystals. Thandi decided to share her discovery with her friends, and together they had an adventure of a lifetime!' Notice how the story has a beginning, middle, and end, and uses descriptive language to engage the reader.

Now, let’s work together to create a short story. I will start with a sentence: 'In a magical land, there was a talking lion.' What do you think should happen next? Let’s brainstorm ideas for the plot and characters. Remember to think about how we can use descriptive words to make our story exciting. After we gather ideas, we will write a few sentences together, focusing on punctuation and spacing.

It’s your turn to write! Think of a character and a setting. Write a short story of at least five sentences. Make sure to use correct punctuation and spacing. After you finish, pair up with a partner and read your story to each other. Discuss what you liked about each other’s stories and give one suggestion for improvement.
