Today, we will read a short story in Sesotho and discuss our predictions before and after reading.
Let’s look at a short story titled 'Mokhantšo le Nkhono' (The Clever Boy and His Grandmother). Before reading, I will ask you: 'What do you think will happen in this story?' After reading the first paragraph, we will discuss if your predictions were correct and what clues in the text helped you make those predictions.
Now, I will divide you into small groups. Each group will read a different paragraph of the story. After reading, discuss within your group what you think will happen next and why. Pay attention to the words and phrases that give you hints. After 10 minutes, we will share our predictions with the class.
For your independent practice, I want you to write three sentences predicting what will happen next in the story. Use correct punctuation and spacing. After writing, exchange your sentences with a partner and read them aloud. Discuss whether you agree with each other's predictions and why.
