Reflection is the process of thinking about what you have done, how you did it, and what you could improve. In Creative Arts, this means considering your artwork, performances, or projects and evaluating them critically. Assessment, on the other hand, is the way we measure or judge the quality of our work. It can be formal, like grades, or informal, like feedback from peers. Together, reflection and assessment help us grow as artists and improve our skills.
Let's say you created a painting. To reflect, you might ask yourself questions like: What did I enjoy about this painting? What challenges did I face? If I could do it again, what would I change? This process helps you understand your strengths and areas for improvement. For assessment, you might share your painting with a classmate and ask for their feedback, which can provide new insights.
As a class, we will discuss a recent project you completed in Creative Arts. Each student will share one thing they liked about their work and one thing they would change. This will help us practice reflecting on our work. After sharing, we will compile a list of common themes that emerge from our reflections, which will help us understand how reflection can vary from person to person.
For your mini-project, choose a medium (drawing, painting, or sculpture) and create a piece of art. After completing your artwork, write a short reflection (5-7 sentences) about your process. Include what you enjoyed, any challenges you faced, and what you learned. Finally, assess your work by giving it a score out of 10 and explaining why you chose that score. Be prepared to share your artwork and reflections with the class.
