Geometry is the branch of mathematics that deals with shapes, sizes, and the properties of space. Let's look at a triangle. A triangle can be classified based on its angles: an acute triangle has all angles less than 90 degrees, a right triangle has one angle equal to 90 degrees, and an obtuse triangle has one angle greater than 90 degrees. For example, if we have a triangle with angles measuring 60°, 60°, and 60°, we can classify it as an acute triangle. Now, let’s examine a quadrilateral: if we have a shape with four sides where opposite sides are equal and all angles are 90 degrees, we classify it as a rectangle.
Now, let's practice classifying shapes as a class. I will show you several shapes on the board. For each shape, I want you to tell me its name and at least one property. For instance, if I show you a square, you might say it has four equal sides and four right angles. Let’s start with the first shape: a pentagon. What can you tell me about it?
