To find the area of a rectangle, we use the formula: Area = length × width. For example, if a rectangle has a length of 5 cm and a width of 3 cm, we calculate the area as follows: Area = 5 cm × 3 cm = 15 cm². This means the space inside the rectangle is 15 square centimeters.
Let's classify some shapes together. I will show you a series of shapes, and you will help me identify them. For instance, if I show you a shape with four equal sides and four right angles, what shape is it? (Students respond: A square!) Now, what if the shape has two pairs of equal sides but does not have right angles? (Students respond: A rectangle!) This activity will help reinforce our understanding of shape properties.
Now it's your turn to practice! Solve the following problems on your own. 1) Find the area of a triangle with a base of 6 cm and a height of 4 cm. 2) Calculate the perimeter of a rectangle with a length of 8 cm and a width of 5 cm. Remember to show your working clearly so we can review it together.
