Africa is the second-largest continent in the world, known for its diverse landscapes, climates, and cultures. It is home to vast deserts like the Sahara, lush rainforests in the Congo Basin, and impressive mountain ranges such as the Atlas Mountains and Mount Kilimanjaro. Understanding Africa's geography helps us appreciate its natural resources, wildlife, and the challenges faced by its people.
Let's look at a map of Africa together. Notice the Nile River, which is the longest river in the world, flowing through several countries. The Sahara Desert, covering much of North Africa, is another significant feature. As we discuss these features, think about how they influence the lives of people living in these regions, such as agriculture, transportation, and trade.
In small groups, discuss the different regions of Africa: North Africa, West Africa, East Africa, Central Africa, and Southern Africa. Each group will choose one region to focus on and list its key geographical features. After 10 minutes, each group will share their findings with the class. This will help us understand the diversity within the continent.
For this mini-project, choose one geographical feature of Africa, such as a river, mountain, or desert. Create a poster that includes the name, location, key facts, and an illustration of your chosen feature. Be prepared to present your poster to the class next week. This project will help reinforce what you've learned about Africa's geography.
